Death Elevator Extends Win Streak to 7
We extended our win streak to 7 last week with an 87-61 victory over Purple Haze. There were many great battles fought, and a number of players achieved at least two stars on both their battles, including lm1975, Brisk, jetfixr, sebnm, zethic, and our leaders Queen, Xena, and battlemaster. The most heroic attack went to gabrielle, while the most heroic defense went to jurydog.
While our victory this time was decisive, however, there is still plenty of room for improvement. The main reason for our victory, in fact, was not that we attacked particularly well, but that we used 80 attacks to their 43. This is a problem in that if we come up against another clan that fights as many battles as we do, we could very well lose if we don't learn to use our attacks more effectively.
More tips and tactics are available on this blog and in the War Strategy Guide, but here are a few things we noticed:
1. Ignore the Recommended Target
Early in the war recommended targets are often too low. Later they can become too high, as they'll give preference to an open base rather than one that has already been one-starred. Neither of these things help our clan: going too low takes bases away from lower players that could have also 3 starred them and are now forced to go after higher targets they may not be able to beat, while going too high can result in 0 or 1 stars, and may mean a higher player will need to redo the base. Instead, look at the enemy's clan list for players around your level, and also look at their bases for layouts you think you can get at least 2 stars on.
2. Be Relatively Conservative In Choosing the First Base You Attack
Most of us should probably be picking 4 or 5 bases in our range we think we can do. Of these, start with one on the lower end rather than the higher end, and if you get at least 2 stars, go higher on your second battle.
3. Don't Freak Out if You Bomb Your First Attack
Getting 1 or even 0 stars happens to the best of us, so don't freak out and go super low on your second attack if you bombed out on your first one. Stay on your level, and get a higher loot bonus. If it looks like the clan is doing well, you can even choose to wait until the end of the war, when you may have the freedom to go high and 1 star a base for max loot.
4. Spells
Most players should be using some combo of healing and rage spells. If you're going to use lightning, it should be at the beginning of the battle. Make sure to lure out the clan castle, and get them into a position where you can hit the CC troops and some defense at the same time.
5. Use a Full Army plus Clan Castle and Max Spells
There's nothing worse than getting less stars than you could have because you didn't use a full army, have good troops in your clan castle, use all your spells, or tried to save elixir by making a cheap army. Not that anyone did this, but we've seen it in the past from former members, and that is why they are former members. We don't expect you to get 3 stars or even 1 star every time, but we do expect you to put your best effort forth and never give up on a battle.
6. Make Sure You Have Enough All-Purpose Troops
War battles are really all about getting the Town Hall, so you have to make sure you have troops that will take it out. Goblins should never be used in war because of this, and too many troops that go after defense first can also create a problem.
