We are now warring twice per week, back to back, with the first search starting Thursday, usually in the late morning/early afternoon eastern US time, and the second starting Saturday when the first is over.
1. War Opt In/Out
We expect all our members to be opted in as their default option, and to participate in a minimum of 50% of wars. We understand players will need to opt out sometimes if they are busy, traveling, on vacation, etc., or if they are upgrading their heroes or spell factory and don't want to put the clan at a disadvantage. We will do our best to honor opt outs, but we do ask that when you opt out you put a message in the chat saying why and for how long so the leaders know if you are really unavailable, or if we can count you in if we have a spot we need to fill. Upgrades can also usually be timed so you only have to miss 1 war.
2. Defense Castles
Our standard donations are generally wizards 5+, archers 6+ and witches 2. Some players may ask for max valks, or golems or lava hounds if their bases are set up for to defend with them. Max drags are okay too, but we've found the best defense usually includes a few high level troops and a bunch of archers, since castles with more troops in them are harder to lure. Two witches are definitely a pain as well, but all archers have also been known to ruin people's day. Everyone with these troops is expected to donate a least a handful to the castles.
3. Offensive Requests
We try to fill our attack castles with the best troops possible, so we ask players to be specific when asking for troops, pick something that compliments their army, and include "war request" or similar so people know not to fill with anything else. It also helps if players that have done their attacks or aren't attacking for a make some of their best troops and check in periodically. For TH8s, this includes PEKKA and drag 3, and wiz 5. TH9s are also asked to fill requests for max hogs and balloons, and witches 2, and the most frequent requests from TH10s are Golems and PEKKA. Also realize that if you're asking for something like a max drag or PEKKA 4+, you may have to wait longer than if you ask for level 3+. The higher level troops may make a difference sometimes, but the success of your attack depends more on your strategy than anything.
4. Both Battles Required
If you're opted in, we expect you to use BOTH battles. If you miss one or both battles in war, you'll be opted out of the next war at the very least, and will need to talk to the leaders and explain why you missed before being opted back in. If it happens more than once, there is a very good chance you'll end up getting kicked.
5. Lower Level Players Go First
TH8s should try to use both their battles as early in the war as possible, and try to 3* other TH8s, or if they feel they can't, go as high as they are comfortable for 2* (includes attacking TH9s). Lower TH9s that are not generally getting 3* on other TH9s should use at least one battle early and go as high as they are comfortable for 2* as well.
6. Ignore the Recommended Target. Stay On A Reasonable Level
The recommended target is, in many cases, far too low, so it's best to just ignore it entirely. Instead, make sure you're attacking bases that are reasonable to your level, generally no more than 5 below you on the map.
7. Know Your Armies' Capabilities
At this stage of the game, a big part of winning wars is knowing what bases each of your armies can 3*, and how high you can attack and still get 2*(or in many cases 1* if you're attacking a TH10). By shuffling around who attacks who, and having some players getting 2* up high, it allows other players to go slightly lower to pick up 3* where the lower players would have picked up 2. A big part of using this strategy is knowing what sort of bases are best for different types of armies, which is covered in more detail in Choosing Who to Attack, but really requires practicing with war armies in multiplayer battles to get good at.
8. Don't Be Afraid to Go High
If you're not fairly confident in a 3* attack, sometimes it's better to go as high as you think you can and get 2*. TH8s with PEKKA 3 can consistently 2* most low to mid TH9s, and TH8s with drags 3 can usually 2* mid level TH9s as well, provided the xbows are set to ground. TH9s with level 1 golems and witches can often 2* TH9s with virtually max defense and level 25 combined heroes.
9. TH9s Need Permission to Attack TH8s
We may sometimes need TH9s to finish off TH8s, but this generally happens at the end of the war after all TH8 battles are used, and needs to be cleared with leaders first so we don't use any more TH9 battles on TH8s than we absolutely need to.
10. Don't Wait Till the Last Minute
Just because we ask lower levels to go first does not mean we want higher levels showing up and doing both their attacks with a couple hours remaining. Ideally, everyone should be doing at least one battle the first day, with perhaps a handful of mid to high level players saving one battle for cleanup.
11. Coordinate with your Clanmates
We don't call or reserve bases, but the leaders will sometimes make suggestions, and it really helps to tell your clanmates what bases you're scouting so we can coordinate attacks. It also helps to discuss attack strategies. Your clanmates might offer pointers that you hadn't thought of to improve your attack.
12. Watch Replays
Seems like a no-brainer, but if you know where the teslas, traps, and bombs are, you can plan for them. This is particularly useful for TH8s with hogs 4, who may be able to then go over a base with hogs that they may not have considered if they were the first to attack it.
13. No Sniping or Looting. Ever.
We know some players like to wait until the end, and either not attack, or try and get an easy star to maximize their loot without spending much on an army. Some clans are okay with this, but we do not ever allow it for several reasons. First, it encourages people to be greedy and wait as long as possible, which can screw up our coordination and attack strategies. Second, it is exceedingly rare to have such a lead that the other clan could not storm back and win because we got greedy and tried to loot instead of trying to maximize stars. Third, we ALL need to be practicing our war attacks, and there's no better time than an actual war. Most importantly however, one thing we promote in our clan above all else is fairness, and it simply is not fair for most of the clan to make 2 expensive armies to try and maximize stars while a few players try to take advantage of the rest of the clan's hard work and get easy loot.
14. War is Not the Place to Experiment
We're all saving up for upgrades, but what are we saving up for if not to level up the clan and win wars? We all need to be practicing with our war armies outside of war at least some of the time, against the sorts of bases we expect to have to attack in war. We HIGHLY ENCOURAGE using multiplayer battles to experiment with different army and spell compositions, luring vs not luring, holding back a few reinforcements, and other tactics will help us improve, and POSTING REPLAYS, both when attacks go as planned, and when they do not. During our war battles, however, we need to stick with what we know.
15. DEFENSE!!!
Having a base that is set up to defend against the most common types of attacks at your level, and can often hold the enemy to 1 or 2 stars is just as important as attacking well. Many good designs can be found online, but we highly recommend tweaking them and moving a few walls and traps to make it more difficult for the enemy.
